Here's what the Department of Labor Website has as their overview of the law:
" Section 7 of the FLSA requires employers to provide reasonable break time for an employee to express breast milk for her nursing child for one year after the child's birth each time such employee has need to express the milk. Employers are also required to provide a place, other than a bathroom, that is shielded from view and free from intrusion from coworkers and the public, which may be used by an employee to express breast milk."
From first glance it seems like this law is really great, and would protect just about anyone. But that is not the case....

The Office of Women's Health, a division of the federal Dep't of Health & Human Services, has a site with helpful info for employers. This may be good to link your employer to. It even has examples of what different industries do for space and break time to comply with the law - for example, a clothing store can provide a dressing room for lactation. Not perfect, but it complies with the law and gives the mom a safe space. There are all kinds of creative ideas for different industries here that can help the mom come up with ideas that she can give her employer:
