Successful Breastfeeding Stories
From Families We Support.
I really enjoyed working with Kelly and Jenn. They are both very knowledgeable about things ranging from positioning and latch to paced bottle feeding and deciphering baby cues. They are very patient and helpful and made me feel much better during a very stressful time. I highly recommend both women if you need a lactation professional. I've worked with other lactation consultants in the past and I can say that Kelly and Jenn are by far the best!"
I'd always heard that "breast is best" and wanted my best chance to be successful at breastfeeding. Successful Breastfeeding's prenatal class series allowed me to do that. She accommodated the format of her class to personalized questions and fostered a can-do attitude. It was just the confidence booster I needed going into new motherhood. Because let's face it: new motherhood is full of new information, new sensations, and new responsibilities. In those early days I was able to take the foundations of Kelly's class and apply what I learned to the very first moments with my son. Then meeting with lactation consultants in the hospital allowed me a frame of reference I could build upon and have reinforced without the overwhelm of not knowing what I was doing and being under pressure to get it right with a crying baby. I highly recommend Kelly's class for anyone who wants a jumpstart on knowing how to feed your child when the books on the subject feel too wordy. She gives practical, updated, hands-on tips and tricks to ensure the correct latch, comfortable positioning, and soothing techniques for your baby. Kelly's passion for setting up moms right is palpable, and she seeks to continue setting you up for success beyond the class setting if you need it.
After meeting with a number of consultants who were unable to help us, I worked with Kelly, who was incredible and saved my breastfeeding relationship with my son. She is knowledgeable, experienced, and sensitive. I would recommend her to anyone, hands-down, who is looking for support. She is amazing!
Having twin boys 3 weeks 2 days early made nursing harder than expected. Not only would they not latch on, requiring nipple shields, but trying to tandem nurse was nearly impossible. After weeks of trying to figure this out on my own, I finally searched for help. I was told from a friend to call Kelly and after 2 home visits not only did we get them to latch on without nipple shields but was able to get them to latch on at the same time. Kelly is always a phone call or a text away to offer support. I am extremely thankful for the continued help and being able to have successful breastfeeding.
Kelly is nothing short of AMAZING! I struggled for 9 long weeks without improvement, no matter how many lactation specialists I spoke with. I had succumbed to the idea that I may just have to pump indefinitely, despite my strong desire to nurse. Then, I found Kelly! She came to my home with her bag of tricks and with a few simple changes and a whole wealth of knowledge, I was on the road to healing and sharing a special relationship with my son that we could both enjoy! Her approach is relaxed with a focus on instilling confidence and empowering mothers! She also supported me in my return to work and gave me the tools necessary to make it manageable! My son is now 17 weeks old and we are going strong! I know Kelly will continue to encourage and support me in this journey and I cannot say enough good things about her! Kelly is definitely a gem in the world of lactation!
Omg Kelly, your guidance was essential. Without your help I don't know if I would had been able to continue breastfeeding. After 75hrs of labor and a C-section (at 42 weeks pregnant) I was beyond tired. My husband and doula/cousin were extremely supportive, I prepared and took breastfeeding classes before baby came, but I still needed more. I needed Kelly! She was calm, compassionate, understanding, but most of all her advice was effective. She gave me simple and clear direction on nursing and bottle feeding to get us on track. I was able to send her video of baby's latch and communicate with her by text at any time.
If anyone is on the fence about getting virtual help from Kelly Maher or Allison Alexander DOOOO IT! I’m a first time mom and NICU nurse and work with LCs on a daily basis and early on saw 3 different LCs who were all not the greatest fit for my baby and I. My little guy will be 6 months on the 29th and I just had my virtual appointment with Kelly to help with pumping and a plan to boost supply. I left the call feeling so relieved that the plan wasn’t overwhelming, like my first ones were from other LCs. I feel overall better about finally receiving help with proper flange size instead of trying to figure it out by reading random stuff all over the internet. So please do yourself a favor and just book it... the tips, tricks, plans will forever be helpful in my breastfeeding journey and for future babes! Thank you so much Kelly!
My newborn had been sleeping well, but around 10 weeks or so he started having lots of gas at night and would only sleep 1 or 2 hrs at time. Not sure what had changed, I looked on Pinterest for answers. I knew that I had a heavy letdown, but wasn't sure what else could be the problem. I found an article that talked about lactose overload and thought, "That's us!" I contacted the authors at Successful Breastfeeding to set up a video call and was happy to have a relaxing conversation and we came up with some great things to try. Within a few days our problems were on the mend! I was grateful to get an appointment quickly, it was easy to pick a time on their calendar and they confirmed the appointment within the hour. Thank you!
I have known Kelly both personally and professionally since even before her journey to become a Certified Lactation Counselor & Educator began. I love her compassion and honesty when helping other mothers with breastfeeding issues. Kelly has always been open to sharing her own personal struggles and successes with breastfeeding. I feel this is very important, especially with moms who are struggling. They really need to hear that someone can relate. That someone is Kelly. Her passion is undeniable, it is obvious when talking with her. I love that she has taken extra training (HUG) in helping moms to better read their baby's cues. After a visit with Kelly, my moms are extremely grateful for her expertise. I always get great feedback and that is why she is my go-to referral for all my nursing moms.

My husband and I took the breastfeeding class that Kelly offered last year. There was a great group with so many different questions. Kelly connected to each person and was able to answer their questions or guide them to finding an answer that works for them. My husband had asked about caffeine it's effects on breastfeeding . Kelly spoke from her own personal lifestyle choice and then later that night emailed us with resources to facts about it. I left that class feeling well supported and guided ( in whatever direction breastfeeding lead us) and with a very informative handbook . A couple weeks later our son was born and Kelly was one of the first people to message me on Facebook offering breastfeeding help. She offered to skype, do home visit and left me her phone number. Since connecting with Kelly I am always so excited to send soon to be mommy friends her way. Kelly is so kind and passionate about what she does. Thank you for setting us up for success.
Kelly is the best. This is coming from someone who has two masters degrees (social work and conflict resolution) and loves to do diligent research on every service provider and basically everything in my life. I didn't have time to research Kelly before because I just needed her help immediately. I know many moms will understand. I got so lucky to have been referred to her. She's also unbelievably affordable. She's extremely respectful of confidentiality and the parents right to decide what advice to take or not. You won't regret hiring Kelly!!!
I had the pleasure of working with Kelly in my home for a Peace of Mind session. Although my baby was my second, it was my first time breastfeeding and I was very insecure in my abilities. Kelly got right to work and helped me with some of the issues I was having. I was very unsure of how to use my pump. Kelly helped to make sure I was using the right breast shields and made me more comfortable using it. I was very nervous about going back to work. We came up with a back to work plan that included the steps before going back and an action plan for when I was back to work. I can't say enough good things about Kelly. The Peace of mind session allowed me Peace and confidence that I could and would be able to keep up the breastfeeding after returning to work and put me at ease that my son was doing well and so was I. I'm happy to have had the opportunity to work with Kelly. I continue to contact her whenever I have any questions and she is so quick to get back to me. I'm so glad to call her my friend!!
I thought I knew it all after previously nursing two children with tongue and lip ties (that were revised). I guess not. I was struggling with the latch of my third child, who also had a revised tongue tie. Kelly gave me great pointers and helped me by showing me how to make the latch deeper. Kelly noticed that my daughter had torticollis and showed me better positions to nurse. Kelly also showed me some exercise to use on my little one to help resolve the torticollis. My daughter is now nursing better. She is more content between feedings and her output has increased. So grateful for her knowledge!
For us, the virtual support was quick and effective...and honestly worked around our schedule with a newborn and a 15 month old. We trusted the virtual sessions because we had attended your prenatal class, so we trusted whatever you recommended to us. I LOVED that you could still see the details in his latch, hear any noises of concerns, direct me how to position, and see the body language of my newborn. Plus, I didn't have to worry about cleaning for company.
Just have to shout out to Successful breastfeeding for changing the breastfeeding game for me! I've seen quite a few lactation consultants and never got anywhere with them. I wanted to give up every day. We were seriously struggling with my oversupply and my little guy was suffering because of it. Kelly Maher and Allison Alexander, I found you guys just in time before giving up and I am so so so glad I did! My little guy is full, happy, and his tummy feels so much better and he is SLEEPING! So grateful.
If you're a pregnant or breastfeeding mama, you can't go wrong with Successful Breastfeeding for support in your journey. Speaking as someone who has seen at least a half dozen lactation consultants between 2 babies, Kelly's help with positioning for a good latch surpasses anyone else I've worked with by a mile. Her advice made such a huge difference! With the in-home session, I was impressed by the amount of quality time included and thoroughness of explanations which really set me up to carry on with confidence on my own.
Kelly also spotted my daughter's tongue tie, and told us everything we needed to know about correction and after care so I wasn't left wondering what to do. But I think what really makes working with SB an invaluable experience is the support I got outside of the in-home session. From helpful information, online community, and being able to check-in with Kelly for minor concerns, breastfeeding is so much easier this time around!
